CALLING ALL VEGANS with Sue Spahr and Alec Bosse – July 8, 2019
PUTTING THE SQUEEEEEEZE ON MAPLE LEAF: From one of the Canadian hotbeds of animal rights activity, London, Ontario, Rob McNeil dropped by to update us on the wonderful efforts of the Stop Maple Leaf Violence campaign in placing pressure on Canadian food giant, Maple Leaf Foods, to end their violent exploitation of animals and instead encourage them to become a world leader in the plant-based protein sector. Lots of opportunities coming up to get involved in this vital initiative, so follow them on their Facebook page for details and upcoming events, including a visit out front of President and CEO, Michael McCain’s, residence.
Also, please sign the Change.org petition to stop the Maple Leaf slaughterhouse in London, Ontario. This has all the makings of a blockbuster, with its backroom deals, rubber-stamping, threatened species in peril, serious environmental implications, Indigenous artifacts at risk, not to mention the physical and mental impact on workers and obviously the horrors suffered by the bird victims themselves.
Petition on change.org: “No More Violence in our City – Stop Maple Leaf Slaughterhouse in London, Ontario”.
CHALLENGING SPECIESISM: There is a lot to learn in this segment, kids, so make sure you’re sitting up straight and tall and paying attention. Matt Schwab, another Londoner, helps vegans/animal activists and the non-vegan population be mindful of the power of the words we choose and use (once you “see” it, it can’t be unseen). Visit their YouTube channel to view their exciting new video series focusing on speciesist language and how to improve the framing of our phrases and conversations. Let’s create a world where anti-speciesism is the norm!
A SPOONFUL OF SUGAR….: Toronto comic, Foad HP, has the unique opportunity to deliver the vegan message in a very palatable way: Through the power of comedy/laughter and by being a walking billboard for fitness on a plant-based diet. He busts wide-open the myths that vegans are humourless, paper-thin, and low on energy. This brilliant funny-man also runs Stand-Up Comedy classes through Absolute Comedy in Toronto. THAT’S A VEGAN WRAP has also made its triumphant return!
As always, huge thanks to Chris for working his magic to make this show possible and to ThatChannel for allowing us the use of the space for a steal of a deal.
